Mark Korzep |
Mark comes from a family of musicians. His Uncle, Duane Tatro was the Lead Tenor Saxophone & Arranger for Stan Kenton during the 1950's, and went on to teach at USC for many years also writing music for TV and Movies. Mark's first band included his brothers Tim & Scott on guitar and drums; they practiced in their garage and were instant hits with the neighborhood girls!!! They played all the school dances in his Los Angeles neighborhood in the mid 1960's Mark studied piano, voice, composition, arranging and film at Saddleback College, UC Irvine and Garden Grove Center for the Performing Arts. His influences were from the many musicians that taught and performed at these institutions. After moving to Santa Cruz in 1980, he played electric bass in a Ry Cooder style country band and started his Fine Art & Restoration Company, his day gig. All this time Mark continued to study jazz performance and theory. He dusted off the upright Bass and found this band incredible to play with! Django Reinhardt's style and influences dominate his musical focus these days, although he enjoys playing straight ahead jazz and many other styles as well as pursuing composition and arranging. |
